What is a laser cutter?
The Dremel LC40 laser cutter uses a 40 watt laser beam to cut, score, and etch a variety of material including wood, cardboard, cork, acrylic, leather, paper, glass, and more! Files can be uploaded into the laser cutter software to create custom pieces of art.
How can I submit a design?
Upload your design submission(s) to our request form and a Makerspace team member will contact you after reviewing. Once approved, reserve a time to use the laser cutter to create your project. Reservations can be made for up to 2 hours and only 1 reservation can be made per week. Please come prepared with your approved files. You may use your own laptop to connect to the laser cutter through a USB port or we can provide a laptop for you.

JPEG, PDF, and PNG (for etching on material)
What materials can I use?
The Makerspace sells various sizes and thicknesses of materials for cutting on this machine but you are welcome to use your own materials pending approval by Makerspace staff. View the price sheet.
Keep in mind...
- The maximum thickness for cutting through material is 1/8"
- The maximum thickness for engraving materials is 1.5"
- The maximum size of material is 19"x11"
- The laser cutter is for educational purposes only and should not be used for mass production
- The laser cutter software can only be accessed through the Makerspace
- The user must remain with their project at all times
